Appliance Parts Lookup by Model Number, Right There on the Job
By Oleg Goriachev · Appliance repair business owner and Taskrol founder
The worst place to look up a part is a customer's basement. One bar of signal, a washer pulled halfway out, and that's the exact spot where you need the exploded diagram. Doing appliance parts lookup by model number from down there used to eat my day alive.
You know the routine. Walk outside to get signal. Open Sears PartsDirect, or the manufacturer's site, and wait for a heavy page to crawl in. Dig through the diagram. Find the number. Walk back in. Then do it again on the next call. And every so often you write down the wrong number, order it, and lose the whole margin on the job when you have to come back a second time.
That second trip is the real cost. Not the minutes outside. The callback.
So I put the lookup inside Taskrol, and here's how it goes now. You type the appliance's model number, and the catalog for that exact unit loads right in the job. Then you search by plain part name. Pump. Water valve. Drain hose. You get the OEM part for that model, not some generic list you have to sort through.
The thing that actually saves you in a dead-signal house is that it's text and data, not a website. Nothing heavy to render. No images limping in over one bar. It comes up fast and you can scan it in a second. Find the part, check the number, keep working.
There's a second habit I wanted to kill too. Every tech photographs the appliance's data sticker so they don't lose the model and serial. Do that all day, every day, and your phone fills up with blurry stickers, or they scatter across your camera roll and whatever app you were using last year. It's a mess and you can never find the one you want.
Taskrol gives that information a real home. There's a spot on the job to write down the appliance details, so the model and serial live with the job instead of buried in Photos. Want to snap a picture anyway? You still can. You just don't have to. And when we've got the manual for that model in our database, it's right there, no hunting, no downloading a 200-page PDF over a hotspot.
Put it together and a few things stop happening. You quit ordering the wrong part off a guessed number. You quit losing appliance info in a full phone. And three weeks later, when the callback comes in, you open the job and everything's already sitting there waiting for you.
Parts you find on the job feed the same Shopping List that tracks van inventory — low stock in the truck and parts you need to order land in one place.
That's really the whole idea behind the app: what you need to finish a repair should be in one place, on the job, not spread across five browser tabs and a camera roll.
